The descendant of a brave soldier who perished while defending the United States at the Battle of the Alamo in 1836, Frank Mials Scurlock was born and raised in New Orleans. He attended Sam Barthe School, Ecole Classique, Loyola University and LSU where he majored in communications and business administration.
Frank is a serial entrepreneur who has incorporated more than 20 businesses and opened over 500 retail stores. He is the youngest son of the late Frances Carr Scurlock and NASA engineer and inventor John Scurlock who in 1959 patented the first inflatable amusement ride which grew into the conglomerate known as Space Walk.
From age 12, Frank began working with his parents to build Space Walk into a national company. He also collaborated with his father on the invention of Space Walk’s Safety Air Cushion, most of which are sold to fire departments around the world for training and use at fires in high-rise buildings. The air cushion is also popular with movie stunt men. Working with an engineer, Frank recently identified improvements to the air cushion’s design which makes the product even more valuable.
Space Walk currently operates in 200 plus communities across the country. Frank and Space Walk firmly believe in American manufacturing. Space Walk’s inflatables are U.S. made. Frank is currently renovating a warehouse in the Gert Town neighborhood where inflatables including the air cushion will be manufactured.
Frank has self-funded his campaign. He has made no promises and has no obligations to any donor. Frank is also a loving father, grandfather and servant-leader. A man of God, Frank supports several faith-based organizations including Breaking Bread’s Food Bank and the Heavenly Star Baptist Church.
Frank Mials Scurlock is your Independent candidate for Mayor. Unlike the other major candidates in the race, Frank is not a failed career politician who has spent years complaining about crime, potholes, flooding and homelessness rather than implementing innovative solutions to fix these and other problems like rising insurance costs. If these elected officials have been unable to fix the city’s problems after all these years, why should voters elect any of them to higher office?
The voters of New Orleans are sick and tired of being told by their elected officials to be patient because better days are ahead. The economy will improve. Higher-paying jobs are on the horizon. Potholes will be fixed. All the SWB’s pumps will work. The homeless will be housed. Insurance rates will decrease.
